“A Lesson in Resilience” is a rose crafted from clay, stained, and kiln fired at Good Dirt Pottery Studio in Athens, Ga. This project developed during a time of personal difficulty and life changes as I worked through post-pandemic burnout as a special education teacher. The idea of crafting clay roses and flowers became an outlet for me to deal with frustrations and bloomed into an idea that was personally inspiring to me to return to my career field refreshed and renewed. Like a real rose, each one was unique and handcrafted; but unlike a real rose, these roses went through the fire and instead of being destroyed came out resilient as stone with a unique beauty ready to take on its next stage of life.
